What is the leadership for safety excellence course about?

Contents

It is a virtual training intended for a senior member of staff, such as a supervisor, manager, officer who can lead the rest of the workers on the right line to improve occupational health and safety.

It also may be recommended to a member of the health and safety department as long as they hold a higher rank than other employees.

Here are the course topics:

Supervisor's role.

A space of knowledge about the responsibilities of the position is opened. It helps to understand the obligations that are being acquired and how to manage them in the field of occupational safety.

We talk about ways to promote a corporate culture to achieve a harmonious work environment without neglecting the obligations that have to do with safety within the company.

Risk assessment, definition and management:

The supervisor or operations manager must be aware of risk situations and also have the tools at hand to manage them and reduce the risk of accidents.

During this module, you will be taught how to identify hazards by assessing workers’ behaviors. Moreover, you will be able to define the risks in general within the company since you will learn how to identify spaces, routines and dangerous behaviors in a basic way.

By having a supervisor or manager trained in this area, the safety of the company is doubled, since two people interested in maintaining order and organization of work processes are trained.

Inspecting:

Inspection and risk assessment are totally different tasks. Within the course, differences between them are shown and, at the same time, it is taught how to perform them.

Inspections are performed in the workplace and focus on analyzing the effectiveness of the changes implemented to improve the safety of the environment. This must be documented and you must have the ability to make practical and effective notes.

The LSE course proposes such a broad preparation that, for this module, the student can develop constructive criticism with a personal point of view and applicable to their work environment.

Through these proposals, the safety department is enriched and creates strategies adapted to the field, thanks to an experienced point of view.

Accident background investigation

The adequate protocol to perform an accident or incident background investigation is defined. It can be considered a practice to improve strategies or to comply with external requirements.

During the course, the trainee will learn the reasons why this investigative work may be requested, as well as the correct way to submit it.

Definition of Safety Excellence

In simple terms, safety excellence involves the implementation of effective practices and measures to prevent accidents, injuries, and occupational illnesses. It’s not just about meeting the minimum safety requirements but exceeding them and creating a safe and healthy work environment.

The Importance of Leadership for Safety Excellence

Leadership plays a crucial role in striving for safety excellence. Leaders must establish a clear commitment to safety and demonstrate it through their actions. This involves establishing robust policies and procedures, providing necessary resources, and fostering a culture of safety throughout the organization.

Understanding Safety Responsibilities

All employees, from frontline workers to top executives, must understand their responsibilities in terms of safety. This includes knowing and complying with safety policies and procedures, reporting any hazards or incidents, and actively participating in training and awareness programs.

Corporate Culture

It’s a culture that prioritizes safety, encourages safe attitudes and behaviors at all levels of the organization. To achieve this level, it is necessary to promote open communication about safety, reward and recognize safety achievements, create an environment where employees feel safe to report safety issues, and find ways to motivate everyone to be part of the established order.

Safety Program

It is crucial for achieving safety excellence. It requires the implementation of proactive measures to identify and control hazards, as well as regular evaluation of safety systems and processes to ensure their effectiveness. Additionally, clear protocols must be established to respond to emergencies and handle safety incidents.

Safety Departments

They are responsible for coordinating and overseeing safety-related activities, including policy and procedure implementation, employee training, and incident management. They must stay updated on safety regulations and standards to ensure compliance.

For whom is leadership for safety excellence recommended?

As we mentioned at the beginning, this course is created to enhance the leadership capacity of supervisors, managers and officers when it comes to safety implementations.

It is ideal that it is recommended and applied in this way since it guarantees a better implementation of the changes within the company. Together with the internal auditor, the safety leader will be able to play an important role to achieve the safety goals.

Once the leadership for safety excellence course is taken, will it expire

Once the leadership for safety excellence course is taken, will it expire?

No, this training does not expire. It is accredited for the person who completes the modules and manages to pass with a score higher than 80%.

However, if the employee who has completed the course decides to leave the company in question, the company will need to train or find another employee with such training to update the COR.

Differences Between Hazards and Accident Investigation

Hazard assessment involves identifying and analyzing potential hazards in the workplace with the aim of preventing their occurrence. On the other hand, accident investigation is conducted after an accident or incident has occurred to determine its causes and take corrective actions to prevent recurrence in the future.
